About Grinsons’ Natural Low GI Sugar:
Being associated with health industry for last 15 yrs and a resident of sugar belt of Maharashtra we are well aware of the long term harmful effects of sugar consumption. Yet, peoples continue to indulge with all type of sweets because there is no better alternative. Also the all the artificial sweeteners have long term side effects and do not produce sweetness as sugar like sweetness.
At Grinson we decided to take on this challenge of creating an alternative to regular sugar. It was easier said that than done. Because the only way to preserve sweetness and properties of sugar is to not change it. But how can we lower its side effects without affecting its taste was the challenge. So, we gathered together best mind in business, like Dietitians, Nutritionists, Doctors and food scientist, and Sugar technology experts to come up with solution. The best solution we found was to create a low GI sugar, a sugar that has same taste & properties like regular sugar but do not raise blood glucose level as same as table sugar. To achieve this without altering the nature of sugar we decided to take advantage of mother-nature. In ancient Ayurveda texts, physicians have mentioned various herbs that help to manage blood glucose levels, fat metabolism, decrease lipid and cholesterol levels.
So we decided to invest and pursue this approach of using different herbal extract to counter the side effect of sugar and make a superior product than existing marketed low GI sugars. At initial stage we selected a few herbal extracts and directly blended them with Natural cane sugar but we did not get results that we were looking for specially with lowering the GI, appearance, free flow, density and taste. We realized we needed new processes and a potent blend of herbal extract capable of managing blood glucose levels. So we added more enzymatically treated extracts and developed a novel microcoating technology to apply those extract to sugar.
After 9 years of hard work and research we achieved results that we set out for. During theses 9 years we did came up with a few products which did not meet our stringent standards. Botanical Name- Saccharum officinarum
Mechanism – Source of Sweetner
Sugarcane has a nutritional profile similar to wheatgrass – containing Chlorophyll, Iron, B Vitamins, Calcium, Potassium, & Magnesium. It is rich in complex carbohydrates & very low in simple sugars – between 10-15%. It is low on the Glycemic Index – between 30 & 40, & may be well-tolerated by some diabetics.
